I don't care how much they spend on the stadia, I do care when they overpay their players.
And I do care on the timing of their exhorbitant salaries.
3 months after the WTC, I see inflated salaries to Yankee players as a BIG INSULT to the rest of the country that has offered much, including money, to help New York out.
This is a time for belt-tightening, not 125-150 million dollar payrolls.

um, Alice I mean Alex, Miss Drama Queen... The city of New York does not own the Yankees. Lumping the relief efforts with the Yankee's payroll is just plain ignorant. Increasing one does not decrease the other.
Anyway: you continue to pull numbers out of your butt. You don't know what the Yank's pr is for 2002, but if you ever decide to actually add them up (Excel is helpful) don't forget to include these decreases: Justice ($7 mil), O'Neill ($6.5) Knoblauch ($6), Tino ($6), Brosius (5.25).
that's over $30 million sliced off the top, which gives ol' George something to work with. They won't be hitting $150 million any time soon.

They do relate.
New York is getting a 20 billion dollar assist now, and 20 billion dollar assist later.
The money allows New York to rebuild so they can be what they were before the WTC.
If at the same time, they outtspend every other team in baseball, and continue to escalate their salaries, I find that disgusting.
I said 125-150 million in the post you responded to...so don't just say 150 million.

that's like saying there's an earthquake in LA, and the red cross spent millions, so Alex shouldn't be allowed to buy a new car.
Alex's money isn't the red cross money. George Steinbrenner's money isn't the same as the city of new york's money.
And frankly, having a great baseball team is very good for the moral of that city. I applaud Steinbrenner for spending his money.

Hmm...I heard it is really really close to 150 million. The 30 million you take off the top, you forgot that Ventura replaces Justice's 7 million. Plus the balloon payment on Clemens contract which they CLAIM to be around 15 million/year, but others have said come closer to 20 million because of the deferred money or something. Anyway...Petite gets a raise as well.
Then add on the new contracts of about Hitchcock, Karsay, Giambi, White, plus all the other people who are getting arbitration raises...including the aforementioned Posada...if he gets the 10 mill a year contract...150 million is not as much a pipedream as first thought.
Remember (Hernandez, Mendoza, and Spencer are all eligible).

If they were forced to spend their own money on Stadiums then it follows that they would have less to spend on players.
It's not as if they can hold the city to ransom by threatening to leave is it ?

I think that the stadium was completely nixed.

Who in the media has the guts to take on the city of New York, it's fans, and Yankee baseball.
NOBODY....nobody who hopes to have a journalism career, a reporting career....etc.
The fact remains, you don't accept help from the rest of the country for one set of problems, than overpay your own ballplayers and destablilize baseball in the process.

Alex, do you GET that the city's money and Steinbrenner's money is NOT the same?

Yeah, I get that the rest of the country assisted New York in the form of two 20 billion dollar bailouts, meanwhile George Obliviously pads his payroll to an obscene amount.
Hey, George, how about keeping payroll at 100 million and DONATING that extra 50 million to the city of New York.
Naw, we covered that for em.
